Jenny Westbrook is willing to accept commissions

I work in mixed media, my work is intuitive and organic, the concept is generated through the practice growing from the initial marks.

I start by washing areas of colour and form in acrylic over the canvas to see where it takes me and where to go next, adding anything new alters the balance and determines what is to come. I’m interested in what one colour / shape does next to another. There are lots of layers and edits, I let the painting take its own direction. I sometimes rework paintings I did years ago, so a painting can take a long time to finish, I leave little areas of the original work to show the journey.

While I’m working, I’m processing thoughts, listening to music invoking memories that take me back in time, inspiring the painting, driving it on and giving it energy, one abstract thing feeding another, I stop work when the painting tells me it’s beautiful.

I have shown my work nationally in group shows and solo exhibitions and have exhibited in The Mall Galleries London at The Pastel Society and The New English Art Club Annual exhibitions, taken part in a number of Stuckist shows i.e., ‘Elizabethan Avant – Guard’ in the Bermondsey Project London SE155J, & ‘Stuckism: Re modernising the mainstream’ at The University of Kent, Fresh art fair Cheltenham, also Platform 100 for The Discerning Eye exhibition for the ‘Ing Foundation’.

I belong to The Cheltenham Group of Artists, which has been around for more than a hundred years, also I exhibit with other abstract artists, have taught art to adults in classes and workshops for several years and I give talks and demonstrations of abstract painting techniques and pastels to art clubs and art societies.
