Description

Earthsky Fragment was the first in a thematic series of paintings on Hand Made Indian Rag paper
which I made when living on the Isle of Wight. Whilst no conscious effort was made to depict any
specific place, the ambience of the unique island location inevitably infuses the entire series.
We tend to experience life as a series of fragments and glimpses, which in paintings such as this, through mark and gesture, become physical evocations of lived experience. Thus, there exists no real distinction between earth and sky, as form, space and light become combined to reflect the 'spirit of
place' transcribed via the fluid physicality of materials, in this case, paint and collage, to create a new 'place' of imagination and emotion.
Overall size including frame 67.00 cms x 67.00 cms.
Signed by the artist, usual signature with the year of execution, lower right-hand corner
This piece has been exhibited at: George Taylor Solo Exhibition, New Rembrandt Gallery, Isle of Wight 2012. Spaces of Invention and Places of Imagination, George Taylor Solo Exhibition, Royal Birmingham Society of Artists Gallery 2013
