Description

A series of artworks about my experiences during the winter season in Britain and some of the mythology/legends that surround it. In particular I am interested the Celtic legends, mythologies and Faerie folk - Aos Sith (Scottish, Irish is sidhe).

The Queen of Winter (Cailleach Bheara/Beira),  rises from her slumbers at Samhainn (1 November) and heralds the return of winter; Scottish legend has it that the Cailleach shaped the mountains and glens and controlled the weather. She is also known in Ireland as The Hag of Beara. She is a Celtic deity, the goddess of the winter months and said to control the weather, winds and the length/harshness of the winter. Cailleach  can mean "veiled one", a wise/spiritual woman, or fortune teller or impossibly old woman/hag. #sensuouspractice
