Author: Imprimo

Imprimo partner UK Artists is a thriving online art gallery based in Leamington Spa, Warwickshire, UK founded in 2010 by conceptual artist, Grace Newman.

With her experience as an artist herself, Grace understands the needs and challenges of artists selling their work online and provides unwavering support and responsiveness to all the artists on the platform.

Since its inception, the gallery has grown to represent an impressive collection of visual artists from across the United Kingdom, who have been handpicked for their exceptional work and unique styles.

Imprimo: Unlike Imprimo, artists must apply to sell on UK Artists. By what criteria do you jury artists before allowing them on the platform?

UK Artists: We review individual artist applications online, and we only accept artists that are living and working in the UK. They fill out a form and provide links to their work and social media, which we examine carefully. We can usually tell if a beginner’s work isn’t quite developed and may decline their application. Established artists are an easy choice, and self-taught or emerging artists are welcome as long as their work is of high quality. We strive to maintain high standards, which we hope encourages other talented artists to join us!

Imprimo: What advice would you give to an artist building their online presence for the first time?

UK Artists: It’s important to have an online presence, especially now during the pandemic when people are accustomed to buying online. A good place to start is with Google Maps, as it’s an easy way to get found locally. After that, consider joining an online art platform like UK Artists or Imprimo. Creating a website or a blog is also essential, with services like Wix or WordPress. Social media is also crucial, with Instagram and Facebook being the main platforms for artists. Building an online presence takes time, but it’s essential to be active and consistent. Building a mailing list is also crucial for keeping buyers informed about your work. It’s best to start with one platform and build from there.

Imprimo: Are there different plan types on UK Artists?

UK Artists: Ours is a tiered system, with three different price points available depending on the needs and budget of the artist.

Imprimo: What are some of the ways UK Artists promotes the artists on their platform to their community?

UK Artists: We promote our artists through regular blog posts, social media updates, artist features, and advertising, providing ample exposure for their works. We hold an annual prize-giving exhibition that showcases members’ artwork in a physical display that moves to different locations each year, we curate online exhibitions, and we participate in art fairs and events throughout the year. We work with Lionshome, a furniture and home décor website, offering members even more exposure for their work, with links back to the artwork page on UK Artists.

Imprimo: What advice would you give an artist once they have put work for sale on UK Artists in order to increase their work’s value?

UK Artists: One mistake we often see is artists not having good photography of their work. It’s important to have high-quality images that showcase your work to its best potential. If you can’t take good photos yourself, consider hiring someone to do it for you. Another mistake we see is artists putting everything they’ve created on their website. It’s important to be selective and choose your best work to showcase your talent in the best light. Additionally, it’s important to price your work appropriately. Even if you’re just starting out, your time and effort are valuable, and you should charge accordingly. Don’t undervalue your work, especially if it’s good quality.
