British artist auctions painting to help fellow artists trapped in war-torn Kharkiv03/07/2026Author: UK Artists
ALWAYS THE INNOCENT When artist Peter Wood painted Always the Innocent, he wanted to remind us that in every war, it is ordinary people who suffer the most. Peter has decided to auction this original painting, with proceeds going directly to help two fellow artists living in Kharkiv, Ukraine, to help with living and medical costs. Peter is in touch with Olena, a Ukrainian artist and organised sending her art materials when she moved to Poland at the beginning of the conflict and had nothing! She has since had to return to her country due to new Polish regulations and because Ukraine is where her heart belongs. There are many destroyed and damaged buildings in the city, including the Kharkiv Art Museum, which was damaged only last week. Yet Olena wrote these words: "When the air raid sirens sound, I turn up the music. I try not to dwell on the shelling and live life to the fullest." Her courage inspired Peter to act. Sealed bids open at £200.
