Description
In this vibrant painting, I created a dreamscape where reality blends with imagination. With many different mark making techniques, working impasto, I have crafted an impressionistic landscape bringing the outside into the inside space. The colours of fresh green, gold and magenta are suggestive of wildflowers dancing in sunlight, an invitation to lose oneself in nature's embrace and a feeling of renewal.
This unique painting is created using high-quality acrylic paints on a deep-edged canvas. The process begins with direct observation of the location, where I take notes and photographs to use as reference in the studio. From these initial studies, the painting evolves intuitively.
I begin with base layers applied by brush, followed by multiple layers using impasto techniques. Working with a palette knife, I carefully consider colour theory—balancing complementary and contrasting hues to produce a shimmering, dynamic surface. These methods draw on the optical mixing techniques of the Impressionists, while also incorporating traditional methods such as scumbling and glazing used by the Old Masters.
The work develops organically until it reaches a natural point of completion. The result is a contemporary piece that exists somewhere between abstraction and realism. The palette knife strokes, rich with texture and layered colour, have been likened to stained glass or mosaic—adding depth and vibrancy to the surface.
The painting continues around the edges of the canvas, making framing unnecessary—it is ready to hang as is. A certificate of authenticity is included with the artwork.
