Description

This painting explores the power of an archetypal image that is deeply embedded within our shared imagination. The solitary tree reflects a timeless symbol found throughout myths, legends, and folklore, representing strength, wisdom, resilience, and independence. Through the use of impressionist techniques and carefully considered materials, I aimed to create an atmosphere of peace and serenity. Gentle light emerges from the distant landscape, drawing attention towards the central tree, which becomes the main focus of the composition and encourages the viewer to pause, reflect, and experience a sense of stillness.
Symbolising hope, beauty, and our connection to nature, the flourishing tree forms a visual link between the earth and the sky. Soft shades of blue, subtle touches of gold, and gentle suggestions of light evoke the appearance of a tree in full bloom. Together, these colours and textures create a feeling of calm, renewal, and quiet optimism, bringing a peaceful and almost dreamlike quality to any interior.
This unique, original artwork is painted in acrylic on a circular canvas. My creative process begins outdoors, where I observe the natural environment directly, producing sketches and taking photographs that later become visual references in the studio. Using these studies as a starting point, I work intuitively, applying the first layers with a brush before gradually developing texture, movement, and depth through impasto techniques with a palette knife.
My approach is influenced by the Impressionists and their use of optical colour mixing, alongside traditional painting methods associated with the Old Masters, including scumbling and glazing. I continue to develop and adjust the work intuitively until the painting feels complete and reaches its natural resolution.
The finished piece occupies a space between abstraction and realism, combining recognisable natural forms with expressive marks and textures. The composition extends around the edges of the canvas, creating a continuous image, and the artwork is signed along the side. It does not require framing and is ready to hang. For display purposes, the painting has been photographed against a clean white background.
