Description
Bullfinch – Jewel of the Hedgerow
The Bullfinch (Pyrrhula pyrrhula) is one of Britain's most striking finches, renowned for the male's vivid rose-red breast and cheeks, contrasting with a jet-black cap and slate-blue back.
This artwork captures its poised presence, perched delicately, showing off its strong, curved bill so well suited to feeding on buds and seeds.
Bullfinches favour woodland edges, orchards, and dense hedgerows, where they often move quietly in pairs or small groups. Despite their bright plumage, they are surprisingly unobtrusive, their soft, mournful calls often the only sign of their presence. In spring, they can sometimes be seen feeding on fruit-tree buds, a habit that once gave them a mixed reputation among orchard keepers.
This print is faithfully reproduced to the highest quality as a Limited Edition of 150 Giclée editions, printed with archival pigment inks on fine art paper. Each piece is individually hand-signed and numbered by the artist and accompanied by a certificate of authenticity.
Poetic Note
A flash of red within the green,
A quiet jewel, seldom seen.
In hedgerows thick it makes its way,
A gentle spirit of the day.
