Description

This atmospheric artwork by Yorkshire artist Nick Coley is painted on the reverse of glass, a technique that lends the composition a luminous, layered depth. The Comet draws inspiration from the romantic idea of a celestial portent—an omen foretold in ancient prophecy. At its centre is a radiant sky filled with fragmented blues, suggestive of a comet streaking across the heavens or an otherworldly explosion of energy.

Beneath this cosmic display, abstracted figures emerge in a surreal, theatrical scene. A watchful angel presides over a gathering of monks and soothsayers, each cloaked in mystery and poised as if anticipating revelation. Their forms are intentionally ambiguous, inviting the viewer to interpret their role in this unfolding vision of destiny.

Coley's unique approach merges spiritual symbolism with a contemporary visual language. The result is a haunting, poetic meditation on fate, transformation, and the unseen forces that shape human experience.
