Description
This painting, titled “Morning Stretch,” captures a moment of raw vitality and motion. A horse and rider in perfect unison, mid-stride, rendered with expressive brushwork and dynamic texture. Ive tried to use a balance of abstraction and realism to evoke the energy and grace of horse and rider.
The color palette—dominated by warm ochres, golden browns, and cool blues creates a powerful visual contrast that suggests early morning light breaking across an open field. The impasto technique, where thick layers of paint create visible texture, gives the surface a tactile quality, almost as if the motion of the horse is breaking through the canvas itself.
There's a subtle play between structure and spontaneity, the horse's anatomy and musculature are loosely defined, yet unmistakably strong, the background, with its broad, impressionistic strokes, evokes both sky and horizon without confining the subject. The rider, slightly abstracted, becomes a fluid extension of the horse. Symbolizing harmony between human and animal, control and freedom, discipline and instinct.
“Morning Stretch” ultimately speaks to renewal and energy—the start of a new day, the moment before exertion turns to triumph. It would appeal strongly to collectors interested in contemporary equestrian art that bridges the classical with the modern, offering both movement and mood in a single, commanding composition.
