Description:
This small Adelie penguin was the only of his type remaining at the end of the breeding season and the early days of the onset of winter on the small island Admirante Brown in the Antarctic. He has lost his fluffy baby penguin feathers and is just developing his tail feathers and is about to set off on an independent life. This moment is full of mixed emotions for humans and no doubt penguins too. His slightly aprehensive expression and pose captures this moment for me.

The Adelie Penguin is named for the wife of French explorer Jules Dumont d'Urville who discovered these penguins in 1840.

The print is made by transferring the image by hand onto a metal plate which is then etched in acid. The plate is then hand inked and run through the press with dampened paper which is then dried for a week in heavily weighted blotting paper.

There are four other penguins available in this series.
