Description

A huge stylized sunflower bursts out of the picture frame. A smaller flower also faces the viewer
and both cast cool diffused shadows. The larger flower has distressed veins which reveal two
other worlds. Apparent bite marks on the right side of the sunflower have perhaps have been made
by the caterpillar which is at the back of and parallel to the flowers. A Chinese vase with a single
rose sits to the right of the sunflowers. The treatment of the vase is more naturalistic and less
stylised than the sunflowers, with decorative bird motives.
