The Flaggy Shore and the lake were the subjects of the poem Postscript, by Seamus Heaney. The title of my painting is borrowed from a line of the poem "the surface of a slate grey lake is lit . . . "
The remarkable beauty of the lake and the surrounding area inspired me to attempt to capture on canvas what Heaney, with his great gift for words, described as a place that would "catch the heart off guard and blow it open".

Description
