Description
The lake in these images is Lough Murree, in the Burren, County Clare. The Flaggy Shore and the lake were the subjects of the poem Postscript, by Seamus Heaney. The title of my painting is borrowed from a line of the poem "the surface of a slate grey lake is lit . . . "
The remarkable beauty of the lake and the surrounding area inspired me to attempt to capture on canvas what Heaney, with his great gift for words, described as a place that would "catch the heart off guard and blow it open".
