I took inspiration for this painting from the textile pattern from the textiles of
the Ashanti people in West Africa's Gold Coast. They control
the only source of gold available and have prospered by
trading with Dutch, Portuguese, British and other European
countries. The cloth they weave called Kente is woven in
cotton or silk.
